Where did you grow up and how did it influence your writing?

I grew up in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape. As child I spent most of my time in church and playing sports. I am still fascinated about the uniqueness of the people of the area, not forgetting the hardships they endure. It is this “difference” that motivates me to give them a voice, a place under the sun.

When did you first begin writing?

I officially started writing in the year 2010

What is your latest work and what is it about?

My latest work is a book called:” n Bottelbriefie

…Geskenkie aan my kind”

What do your readers mean to you?

My readers have a special place in my heart. The intention of this book is to change lives.

What are you working on next?

I am currently working on my second book which would also be a Memoir/Poetry

How do you spend your time when not writing?

I am passionate about Landscaping/Gardening and Community Development.Spending time with my wife and two kids.

Can you remember your first story/poem that you read and what effect did it have on you?

It was a poem introduce by my grade 7 Educator:

“Kaalvoet klonkie”,by ID Du Plessis.This was a poem that grasped my immediate attention because I could associate with it.

Do you remember the first story/poem you wrote?

I remember seeing a picture on facebook about,”Die Groot Kerk in Graaff-Reinet”It inspired me to write a poem.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I get my inspiration from attentive listening to the daily struggles of people.

What do you read for pleasure and who is your favourite author/poet?

Books on History and Politics.
